Carolina New Home Guide Guides Costs to plan for

Costs to plan for beyond the price of a new home

The price of the home is the biggest number, but not the only one. Ask about each of these before you sign.

  • Deposits: how much, when they are due, and when they are refundable.
  • Options and upgrades: what is included in the base price and what costs extra.
  • Closing costs: lender, title and government fees due at closing.
  • Homeowners association: any initial fee and the regular dues.
  • Insurance: homeowners insurance, and flood insurance if the home needs it.
  • Property taxes: ask the county how they are assessed for your home.
  • Utilities and connections: deposits or set-up fees for power, water and internet.
  • Moving in: window coverings, appliances not included, and landscaping additions.
